The Armour of God

In Ephesians 6:11-13, the Apostle Paul states, “Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.  For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.  This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.”

In 2 Corinthians 10:3-6, the Apostle Paul states, “For though we live in the body, we do not wage war in an unspiritual way, since the weapons of our warfare are not worldly, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every high-minded thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive to obey Christ.  And we are ready to punish any disobedience, once your obedience has been confirmed.”

In Romans 13:11-14, the Apostle Paul states, “Besides this, knowing the time, it is already the hour for you to wake up from sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.  The night is nearly over, and the daylight is near, so let us discard the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.  Let us walk with decency, as in the daylight: not in carousing and drunkenness; not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarreling and jealousy.  But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no plans to satisfy the fleshly desires.”

The Apostle Paul states it very clearly; Christians are under attack by the devil.  The devil is real, he is not a fairy tale, he is not a mythological creature, he is not just the bad guy in the Book, he is not a villain from the past who does not exist now; the devil is real and has only one driving desire – to kill your soul and rob you of eternal life with God.  Think of this: the devil knows he will be destroyed in the end; his only desire is to take as many of us with him.

Paul calls to all believers to be prepared to battle the devil; it is not ‘in case’ the devil attacks, it is ‘when’ the devil attacks, for he will attack.  The devil will attack anyone he thinks is a Christian; from a person who is just starting to feel the pull of Christ, to the true born-again.  The devil knows he must attack the believers; if you are not being attacked, maybe you should ask why not.

Paul tells us that we will not be waging war in the flesh, this is because the devil will present his attacks aimed at your flesh, but he is actually attacking your soul.  The devil knows that if he can cause your flesh to sin, your soul is his if you do not truly repent of your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.  The devil will use all of his means to destroy you, he is the master liar, master manipulator, and the master tempter; he started with Eve and will not stop till our Lord destroys him.  We can only fight the devil while clothed in the full Armour of God, the Armour of Light; we cannot fight the devil or his minions without God, to do so is to literally give ourselves over to the dark prince of this earth.

In Ephesians 6:14-18, Paul tells us what the full Armour of God consists of:

“with truth like a belt around your waist (a belt keeps the armour secure; the truth keeps us secure in our knowledge so that we are not tricked by the devils lies),

righteousness like armor on your chest (our chest houses are heart, our heart is where the devil aims his main blows; your past sins.  Keep yourself blameless, repent and confess your sins and sin no more; know that your past sins have been forgiven by the blood of Christ),

and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace (a soldier must have a sound footing; with the Gospel of Christ, we have the securest of footings).

In every situation take the shield of faith, and with it you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one (a shield protects the whole body and also protects the armour; without true and pure faith, we are dead).

Take the helmet of salvation (without a helmet on, your mind is vulnerable to satan’s lies; your mind is vulnerable to doubting God, to doubt God is to accept death),

and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word (a soldier needs a weapon to fight back with, and God’s word is the strongest weapon of all; it is not only an offensive tool, but also defensive.  God’s Word, the full Scriptures, will destroy any lies, strongholds, or doubts thrown at you; we must trust all of the Scriptures.

Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints (we must be speaking with God on all occasions; God is our General in this battle.  We must not only pray for ourselves and our families, but we must also prayer for our brothers and sisters in Christ).”

The full Armour of God consists of the truth, righteousness, the Gospel, faith, salvation, Scripture, prayer, and prayer for each other; we must have the full Armour of God on ALL the time if we are to battle the devil, not just one or two pieces when we feel like it.  We must put on our own Armour; we must be vigilant and prepared for battle at all times.

Suit up and be ready to battle!
